Two of Britain’s most famous footballers’ wives are heading to court to settle a long-running defamation case.
Rebekah Vardy, who’s married to Leicester City footballer Jamie Vardy, has issued proceedings against Coleen Rooney.
Rooney claimed Vardy had leaked stories from her private Instagram account to The Sun newspaper.
Rooney, who’s married to former footballer Wayne Rooney, said she’d spent five months in 2019 investigating the leaks before deciding on a sleuthing path to try to find the culprit.

She set up a false story that her house was flooded.
She limited the number of people who could see that Instagram story, so that only Rebekah Vardy had access to it.
Rooney’s false flooding story ended up in The Sun, leading her to publicly accuse Vardy of being the leaker.
“For a few years now someone who I trusted to follow me on my personal Instagram account has been consistently informing The Sun newspaper of my private posts and stories.”
“There has been so much information given to them about me, my friends and my family – all without my permission or knowledge,” Rooney said.
Vardy denied the claims, saying others may have had access to her Instagram account.
Vardy has said the stress of the dispute has left her with anxiety attacks and left her hospitalised after online abuse.
The Sun newspaper has never commented on the case, and refused to reveal who their source was.
Media lawyer Mark Stephens told The Guardian: “The Rooney sleuthing methods are going to be put on trial and forensically examined in court. I suspect what we will find is they are wanting.
“She will have to show that nobody else in the world knew what was being put on that Instagram account.
“There are a number of flaws with that, because those in her intimate circle will have been told what’s going on. And the technological way she did it isn’t entirely foolproof.
“It may well have been that Rebekah Vardy told people within her social circle and they leaked it, entirely without her knowledge or approval.”
